I am an active duty officer (Commander) in the Hellenic (Greek) Navy currently stationed at NATO Headquarters in Norfolk, VA. I am eligible for retirement upon submission of intent, a process which will take approximately three months.
I am a US citizen, fluent in English, Greek and conversant in German. I am married with two children ages 13 and 11 who are also US citizens; my wife has a permanent visa eligible for US citizenship within 24 months and it is our intention to reside in the United States.
I have twenty years of technical and management experience with complex navy operational systems on a multinational level. Through continuing education and training programs I maintained operational excellence and have refined my interpersonal skills to make a difference.
My career started in 1990 with my commission as an ensign in engineering, operations, maintenance and repair of ships and shipboard systems. I have held management positions from supervisory to senior levels and I pride myself on being a team player able to motivate and effectively communicate up and down the chain of command.
WORK EXPERIENCE
August 2010 – present Commander-Hellenic (Greek) Navy
Stationed at Norfolk Virginia, NATO Allied Command Transformation Headquarters. Member of a multinational team to define and monitor the effectiveness of critical transformation support to NATO member nations.
2008 – July 2010 Naval Training Command Base
Director of Infrastructure and acting director of Training: Responsible for fiscal management of infrastructure (buildings, roadways, machinery and vehicles), installation physical security, fire fighting, fuel and electrical consumption, weapons and ammunition storage and handling. Also responsible for the training of enlisted personnel and junior officers.
2005 – 2007 Hellenic Ministry of Defense
General Directorate for Defense Armaments and Investments. Offset Contracts Department, Offset Contracts Manager. This post involved the formulation of new contracts, amendments of existing contracts and conducting of direct negotiations with foreign companies that pertained to offset benefits contracts.
2002 – 2005 Naval Base Technical Division
Ship Repair Superintendent. Responsible for the cost and schedule for all ship repairs.
1990-2002 Served on board various ship classes
Held positions in the engineering department as Main Propulsion Assistant and Chief Engineer. Responsible for managing a team of 30 to 120 people (depending on ship class) for the day to day operations, maintenance and repair of main propulsion, electrical generating plants, steam turbines, diesel engines and gas turbines. Ships served include: 1200 psi steam turbine destroyers, diesel propulsion LST, diesel propulsion fleet oiler and gas turbine hovercraft.
